The Beginning of M K Gandhi

                M.K Gandhi was influenced by his Mother. Gandhi ji’s Family was follower of Vaishnav religion, under this religion eating flesh and smoking were assumed as two awful misdeeds.

                 He was married with coeval Kasturba at the age of thirteen (13).

                He was completed his graduation with law from London.He got his first inspiration and motivation by reading the Hindu religion’s holy book “Geeta” while he was pursuing his law studies in London, then one of his Cristian friend also introduce him with a Cristian religion’s holy book “Bible”. He got much more inspiration by reading the biography of Lord “Buddha”. After reading such books he starts thinking from different ways in different directions.

                After completing his graduation as he returned his home (Rajkot), he got a bad news of his mother’s death from the relatives. Spending some days at home he went to Mumbai for Advocacy, but after observing the atmosphere (Bribery, lies, conspiracy) of court, he was finding some chance to leave it and go elsewhere.

When he returned Mumbai to Rajkot, he got invitation from South African Indian Muslim firm of Dada Abdulla & Co. in South Africa to defend its case.

              At the age of 24 he went to South Africa in April, 1893. Ship takes six weeks to drop him at Durban (a coastal city in eastern South Africa).

Europeans called Indians as “Kuli” there, and sooner he (the only Indian advocate there) was known with the name of “Kuli Barrister”. After spending a week in Durban, he was agreed to go to the capital of Transvaal, Pretoria, where his client trial was to be done. Abdulla bought a first class ticket and sent to him. When train arrived to the capital of Natal, Maritz burg, a white passenger arrives and ordered to him to travel in general coach in front of railway employees and when Gandhi ji refused to accept that white passenger order, he pushed out Gandhi ji from the coach forcefully with the help of constable. That night Gandhi ji decided to fight for his rights. He reached to Charlestown where from Gandhi ji had to catch a cart (Buggy) to reach Johannesburg. The overall travelling experience inkling him from the condition of Indians there.

Gandhi ji called a meeting with the help of Abdulla, all the Indian people lived there at the capital of Transvaal, Pretoria. It was his first meeting to lead for Indian rights there.
